Cons
None really |
My Review of Del Sol Aviation:
I got my PPL from Del Sol, and am just starting my instrument rating. The number one reason I would recommend this school is that they value you and your money. My lesson plan was structured to achieve the maximum benefit for the amount of time and $ spent there. Throughout I never felt rushed, pressured or otherwise not in control. Safety was always first, and the quality of instruction paramount.
I was able to achieve my PPL in 41.7 hours of instruction - without feeling in the least that safety was ever compromised.
Big fan...

Pros
guy behind the front desk is nice the instructor was very knowledgeable easy to get to
|
Cons
charges for everything seem unorganized lots of obscenities being spoken owner gives his pitch at the end and it's all focused on his charges |
My Review of Del Sol Aviation:
they have a charge for everything. I did a discovery flight with a pretty nice flight instructor then after was shuffled into their office where I was given the fees. fuel charge, airplane charge, insurance charge, credit card fee charge, and after tax it's cost prohibitive. When I was there I didn't see any other students.

Pros
Class C Airport training, clear practice areas local, ease of access, aspen avionics training, accelerated courses |
Cons
"nickel and dimers"-they have been tacking on "fees", including fuel surcharge (even though its a wet rental), and now a credit card fee (even though my bank in particular charges no fees). Sometimes there are frequent maintenance problems however I never felt that safety was at risk. |
My Review of Del Sol Aviation:
I received my Private Pilot License with Del Sol. I had a great experience and feel I was trained well. For the most part the aircraft were in good working order and were available when I needed to fly. The biggest downer is that I wanted to fly Cessna and they mostly have Pipers. They have one 172 but it is a lease back and it was obvious that there was some hesitation to doing more than the bare minimum. For the entirety that I was working on my PPL the 172 had only 1 radio and was the only aircraft not equipped with some kind of GPS. The airplane was also being flown by an older female student who wore an exorbitant amount of perfume making the airplane not only stink but made me feel dizzy when I flew it. I complained to the director and asked that he request she not wear perfume but my concerns went unheeded.
Sometimes the 100 hr check wasn't anticipated and my flights were scrapped. On my check ride the airplane had an expired registration, because its a lease back, and my check ride was postponed for more than a week.
Although I don't like many of their "nickel and dime" business practice and have found their enthusiasm for maintaining the 172 to not reach the same standard as their Cherokees, Del Sol is sort of the only show in town (ALBUQUERQUE) with the exception of Bode, but they are way out of the way. You do get to train at a Class C and the staff is very excited to add new students to the roster.
The people at Del Sol are my friends and I aim only at giving the most objective non bias account of my experience with them.
