Pros
Nice facilities Easy to fly Cessna Very nice cockpit and avionics |
Cons
Impatient instructor Expensive More complicated Class C procedures than a smaller airport |
My Review of Flying Start Aero LLC:
The lessons seemed to be going just fine, but I noticed the instructor tended to be a bit impatient at times when I wasn't reacting fast enough or didn't understand something that he though I should already know. He would always flip switches or dial things up on the flight display without telling me what he was doing and why, and didn't seem very happy when I asked.
Everything seemed to be going well with the lessons until I was told I had to buy a Cessna Pilot's Kit. I already had a Jeppesen kit from some previous lessons and didn't see the reason to pay another $400 kit that contained the same information. At this point he told me that if I didn't buy the kit he wouldn't teach me anymore, so we parted ways. I wondered if there was something else bothering him, but I'll never know.
The Cessna Skycatcher was a great training plane, but flying in and out of the Reno airport is much more complicated for a student. I'll be looking to resume my training at a smaller airport with, hopefully, a more mellow and patient instructor.

My Review of Flying Start Aero LLC:
I have flown with Hohn several times now and he is just great. You can tell he has a genuine love of flying. Ii, like most people was nervous to start flight training but he put me at ease from the first flight. I really enjoy the fact that he has a no nonsense way of teaching. This is a sport that can kill you and you have to be truthful with yourself. He has a way of cutting through the esoteric aeronautical terms that I appreciate. I have. Flown with only one other staff member, Bob, and he is just great. An extremely friendly and knowledgeable man that obviously loves being a CFI. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Clean facilities Latest electroncis Knowledgable instructor

Cons
Expensive compared to other schools Instructor has no patience |
My Review of Flying Start Aero LLC:
Extremely professional, clean, and knowledgeable instructor. However, do not make mistakes as a student pilot, or else you will be chastised and kicked off the plane. The instructor has no patience whatsoever. Even with weekly lessons, the instructor neglects and forgets the basic information of your progression as a student. Instructor had no idea where we left off after 2 lessons and confused me with having a private pilots license when I had less than 4 hours in a Cessna.
Instructor literally said: "I do not have time to teach you how to fly"
